Moving Minds Dance seeks a TEACHING ARTIST for the 2022-23 school year, September 2022-June 2023.
Moving Minds Dance is a curriculum-integrated dance program where we believe all things can be learned through dance. We offer rich dance programming for young children at multiple Seattle-area community centers (Garfield & Montlake), as well as in-school programs and corporate workshops for adults.
The teaching artist will provide Moving Minds programming by meeting the following expectations:
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 3 years of teaching experience, a strong understanding of positive classroom management, basic understanding of child development, and familiarity with the theories of brain-compatible dance education. They will have a warm, kind demeanor with students and families and value student and community development first and foremost.
This position will earn $30+/hour for teaching hours, commensurate with experience. Classes under 1 hour in length will be paid as a full hour. The teaching artist’s schedule will be determined by their availability and the Moving Minds class schedule. Planning hours are paid at a separate admin rate. Teaching Artists will be paid monthly as an Employee, not an Independent Contractor.

- Provide dance instruction as scheduled, including weekly classes for the entire school year as well as possible one-off workshops and shorter in-school programs.
- Instruct students using provided Moving Minds Dance curriculum and class outlines. Moving Minds Dance is a curriculum-integrated dance program and strives to provide consistent class offerings throughout the city. Teaching Artists have flexibility to infuse MMD curriculum with their own teaching style. MMD Curriculum is proprietary and Teaching Artists will be expected to help protect the company’s intellectual property.
- Foster an engaging and safe learning environment, where students experience a sense of belonging, are invited into the creative process and can be positively challenged and supported. Guide, model, and correct dancers’ technique and movement in a way that promotes growth and confidence and celebrates the individuality of each dancer.
- Select and provide appropriate music for class when a playlist is not provided.
- Interact respectfully with colleagues, families, and community center staff.
- Report any concerns regarding student behavior and/or class placement to the Director and maintain open and clear communication with Director, which may include responding to emails, phone calls or meeting briefly before/after class.
- Adhere to all Moving Minds Dance policies, as detailed on the Classroom Policies and Procedures and Classroom Expectations documents.
- Arrive punctually and communicate all scheduling needs at least one month in advance, excluding sickness/emergency.
- Teaching Artists will be expected to have First Aid/ CPR certification, be vaccinated for Covid-19 as required by most program partners, and submit a background check.
