Community Classes look very different this year.

We are looking forward to joining you all again in the classroom as soon as it is safe. For now, we are providing enlivened, engaging virtual programming to keep us all safe, healthy, and creative two ways:

Virtual Classes with Seattle Parks and Recreation
and
Our Treasure Chest with options to learn in your own time!

Our teaching philosophy has not changed, and we are excited to be discovering new, vibrant ways to showcase our values. We hope you will join us for virtual programming the fall and stay tuned for new developments!

Teaching Philosophy and Integrated Learning

Each season, our community classes incorporate an academic or real-world theme in a developmentally appropriate way. We are still planning our integration themes for the 2020 school year, but past units have included:

Building Inclusive Community with Social-Emotional Intelligence
We hone our social and emotional skills, learning to build strong relationships, care for ourselves and each other, and become active members of inclusive communities.

Physical Science and Kinesiology
We investigate how science rules the dance studio and the world around us by exploring our anatomy and experimenting with principles of physics like speed, force, and states of matter.

Storytelling, Poetry, and Literacy
We dive into the magic of storytelling and literacy as we create dances inspired by the books we love.

Nature and Geography
Our summer camps our outside every year, and our classes explore the wonders of nature, from the weather to the ways animals and plants support each other.
